Bookkeeping NJ:Monthly Bookkeeping Services

Wasserman Accounting CPAs runs monthly bookkeeping for New Jersey small businesses. Every transaction is categorized, every account reconciled, and you get a profit and loss and balance sheet you can hand a lender or your tax preparer. We also bring books that are months or years behind up to date. Call 609-281-8096.

Our bookkeeping NJ service, month by month

  • We categorize and reconcile every account each month and deliver statements you can act on.

  • We keep the books ready for the New Jersey filings: sales tax, payroll reporting, and quarterly estimates.

  • We take on catch-up and cleanup work first, then keep the books current on a monthly schedule.

What is included in our bookkeeping services?

Seven services, run as one monthly engagement:

  • Transaction categorization in QuickBooks Online, Xero, or your existing system, on a chart of accounts built for your business

  • Bank, credit card, and loan account reconciliations, every account tied to its statement each month

  • Accounts receivable and accounts payable tracking, kept current month to month

  • Payroll entries recorded and matched to the filings, coordinated with our payroll services when we run both

  • Sales tax data organized by state and period, ready for the returns

  • A profit and loss and balance sheet each month

  • Catch-up and cleanup of prior months or years, then maintained going forward

Bookkeeper vs. accountant vs. CPA: what is the difference?

What a bookkeeper, an accountant and a CPA do, and whether we cover each
RoleWhat they doWe cover it
BookkeeperRecords and reconciles day-to-day transactionsYes
AccountantAnalyzes the books and advises on tax and strategyYes
CPASigns off on financials and represents you before the IRS or the stateYes

We do all three, so one team sees the whole picture.

What are the steps in monthly bookkeeping?

  1. 1Setup and diagnostic

Setup and diagnostic: we review your chart of accounts, prior-year return, and current file.

  2. 2Collect

Collect: we pull bank, credit card, and loan statements, plus payroll and processor reports for the period.

  3. 3Reconcile

Reconcile: we categorize every transaction, tie every account to its statement, and post the adjusting entries you have to make by hand, like splitting a loan payment into principal and interest.

  4. 4Deliver

Deliver: you receive the profit and loss and balance sheet, with short notes on anything unusual in the month.

We run every month the same way, so you do not have to remember what happened last time.

Which New Jersey filings do we prepare the books for?

  • Sales and use tax: the quarterly ST-50 return, with monthly ST-51 payments for the first two months of each quarter once you exceed the Division’s threshold

  • Payroll: the quarterly NJ-927 withholding return and the WR-30 wage report, with NJ-500 payments between returns for larger employers

  • Quarterly estimated income tax on NJ-1040-ES

The return is quarterly on every form; the payments between returns have their own schedule. We organize the data so each return is filed on time.

What are the signs of bad bookkeeping?

  • Accounts have not been reconciled in months, and the cash balance in the software is not the balance at the bank
  • Owner draws, loan proceeds, or transfers between your own accounts recorded as income or expenses
  • The revenue on your profit and loss is higher or lower than what your payment processor reported to the IRS
  • Sales tax under-collected, or filed on the wrong basis
  • Duplicate vendor payments and subscriptions nobody is watching
  • A lender asked for financial statements and you could not produce them

In first-year cleanups we reverse processor deposits recorded as income twice, once from the point-of-sale summary and once from the bank feed. It is invisible until someone reconciles.

Which industries do we keep books for in New Jersey?

  • Restaurants and food service:daily POS reconciliation, tips, and prime cost, on our restaurant bookkeeping page

  • Real estate:property-level books for landlords and investors

  • E-commerce and retail:POS and marketplace reconciliation

  • Contractors:job costing

  • Professional services and medical or dental practices

How we price bookkeeping in NJ

We price on the work involved, not by the hour. Four factors:

  • Monthly transaction volume
  • The number of bank and credit card accounts to reconcile
  • How far behind the books are
  • Whether payroll or sales tax work is included

A business with one account and no payroll is at the light end.

These are the factors, not a quote: send us view-only access or last month’s statements and we return a fixed monthly quote, with cleanup priced separately.
